Rita Paczian
Professional Tennis Coach
Rita is a Qualified Tennis Australia Club Professional Tennis Coach (Advanced Level 2), registered with Tennis Coaches New Zealand (TCNZ).
Rita was born in Germany where she took part in many competitive sports from a young age, becoming a professional table tennis player and winning a number of regional titles throughout Germany. After emigrating to New Zealand in 1994 she was able to concentrate on her first love, tennis, and worked extensively with Counties coach, Rod Macgregor. While living on the Sunshine Coast Queensland from 2004 to June 2008 Rita trained as a tennis coach under iconic Australian coach Mal Murphy, President and head of training of the Australian Tennis Professional Coaches Association (ATPCA) which runs courses endorsed by Tennis Australia. Under his tuition she successfully completed Level 1 coaching accreditation in April 2005 and went on to gain the Level 2 (Club Professional Coach) qualification in September 2006, achieving the highest marks in her group. Rita says of the courses “They were inspirational and covered all of the most up-to-date coaching techniques giving me many new ideas and great motivation”.
From February 2007 until May 2008 Rita was head coach of the Kandanga, Kin Kin and Pomona Tennis Clubs on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, working with juniors and adults of all levels (beginners to advanced). In New Zealand, Rita has been Head Coach at the Pompallier Tennis Club from 2008 to 2009 and at the West Harbour Tennis Club from 2010 to 2011. From 2012 to 2015 shetaught on a private tennis court in Massey, Auckland. Since 2016 she coaches at the Whangamata Tennis Club, as well as in Pauanui, Tairua and Hahei (Coromandel east coast).
As a coach she is known for her unique ability to get the best out of all age groups from pre-school beginners to those in their 70s. Her love of tennis and people combined with her patience enables her to quickly get the confidence of those in her classes. Rita’s coaching sessions are always well planned and include a good balance between developing skills and fun, using encouragement as the best way to achieve results. Rita believes in using a wide variety of drills and games that bring the best out in the players enabling them to improve in the most effective way. She is expert at discerning what is lacking in the game of more advanced players and has the ability to help the person quickly rectify those faults or weaknesses and to demonstrate the best techniques or game tactics. Rita is very open to accommodating requests for lessons and rescheduling rained-out sessions.
Rita can provide balls, racquets, pick-up tubes and various teaching aids for beginners, and a ball machine and video equipment for more advanced students. A stringing service is available (/stringing.html).
Rita is an active competitive player with experience on clay, grass and hard courts. During her time in Queensland she won a number of tournaments, including the Sunshine Coast Open Women’s Singles. She has been Women's Club Champion of the Noosa Sunshine Beach, Gympie, Pompallier, West Harbour and Whangaparaoa tennis clubs. In 2016 Rita won the Over-45 single competition at the NZ National Seniors championships and was runner-up in both Women's & Mixed Doubles.She is an active interclub player in Auckland and plays for Northcote. In 2017 in Florida and in 2018 in Germany, she represented New Zealand in the ITF Seniors World Championships.

Besides playing tennis Rita has a second career as a professional conductor. She is fluently bilingual in German and English.
